Effective March 16, 2017, PIMS Distance Education has been approved as an institutional participant in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). SARA is an agreement among member states, districts and territories that establishes comparable national standards for interstate offering of postsecondary distance education courses and programs. Being a participant means that the Institute   is held to a higher standard of educational excellence and that the distance education program will be accepted by all states that are members of SARA. Effective immediately Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science is NOT accepting admission applications for its online program from the following state:

  • Massachusetts

In addition, the states listed below require that all embalming requirements be completed on campus at Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.

  • Montana

The above list does evolve as states join SARA or change their state embalming requirements, please check back frequently to check the status of your state.

This new approval and authorization only affects Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science Distance Education. The campus-based programs are not affected. Pittsburgh Institute continues to welcome students from all states to apply for admission to all of its campus-based programs.
